Happy New Year! I hope you had a restful holiday season, and feel rejuvenated and ready to start off 2023 with a fresh perspective. If you missed our Instagram post, in addition to some much needed downtime, I had the opportunity to check an item off my bucket list. My family escaped to the mountains in Lake Tahoe and rode snowmobiles through the woods! It was exhilarating, albeit freezing, (it rained!) but we had an amazing time.
As we gear up for this new year, instead of sharing resolutions, we have been reflecting on some simple strategies for freshening up your home. While we love seeing all that festive décor, it’s also a relief to get our homes (and lives) back to normal.
Here are five tips to “reset” your home for 2023.
Clear away the clutter. This can be difficult for all of us! One thing that can really help is to consider having a “home” for everything…and we mean EVERYTHING. Being able to put items away is the first step in managing all the stuff, especially any new items that have entered the home. Another strategy to reduce clutter is to donate unused items. This is a great time to gather items that are unused and get them into the hands of others, who may truly need them.
Freshen up a neglected space with a new paint color. Paint is easy, cheap, changeable, and can make a HUGE visual impact in your home. We are very excited to share the “colors of the year” with you (stay tuned!) While some of us are hesitant to jump on “trends,” if you’re looking to step out of your comfort zone with a pop of color, painting a room (or even an accent wall) in your home can be a great way to experiment, without committing to anything permanently.
Finish a project you’ve been putting off. We all have them - that one task you started but got distracted and never finished. Whether it’s a DIY project, or something simple like changing out some lighting to LED, it’s such a rewarding feeling to check something off the proverbial ‘to-do list.’
Add some greenery. Not only do plants add oxygen to your home, studies have shown they actually brighten your mood. And then there’s the color - nothing like a beautiful plant to add a pop of vibrant color to any space.
Embrace your unique style. It can be tempting to see beautiful images of perfect homes and think you should try to recreate them. But the truth is, your home should be a reflection of YOU, and your own particular style, experiences, and treasures. There is nothing wrong with having your favorite pieces that don’t abide by any “trends” in home décor. Framed travel photos, souvenirs from faraway places, and even family heirlooms can all be tastefully incorporated into your décor.
