The owners of a 1920s Tudor Revival in San Rafael loved the charm and history of their home but wanted to bring the functionality of their most frequently used spaces into the twenty-first century. For the newly renovated kitchen and pantry, Sonoma Interiors provided the clients with a classic black-and-white color scheme featuring a checkerboard floor. The new primary bath is hardly recognizable, transformed into an open, spacious, and efficient layout filled with natural light and offering an inviting view of the picturesque garden beyond.
A stylized William Morris wallpaper in a warm gray colorway sets the tone of the bathroom. The curvilinear niche tile echoes the motif of the wall covering, while the tile border repeats across the shower, bathtub apron, wainscoting, and window trim. A pleated glass pendant adds a touch of elegance. Because the homeowners are in their seventies, Sonoma Interiors incorporated Universal Design principles throughout. A zero-threshold shower ensures easy access. The bathtub features a built-in niche, open ledge, and pony wall, offering a steady handhold when entering or exiting.
